Mosonmagyaróvár Castle is one of the few castles in Hungary that is still preserved in the original size. Its construction started in 1364. From 1530 to 1544 it was rebuilt and its defences were strengthened. The castle took on its present form in 1818, when Prince Albert Kazimierz of Saxe-Teschen and the knight Antal Wittmann of Dengláz founded the predecessor of the university faculty now located in the building. Since then, the castle – as the only one in Hungary - has served higher education.
A renovation of the building between the years 2018 and 2021 included the restoration of the exterior and the façade, as well as the creation of a reception and event area in the courtyard. An exhibition on the history of the castle and the institution, a museum shop and a museum education centre were opened on the ground floor.
